Our RE, RSHE, and Prayer and Liturgy Policies

At St. Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary, we aim to educate the whole person based on the belief that the human and the divine are inseparable and every child should reach their full potential.

We provide:
• A way of life based on Gospel values and a deeper understanding of Catholic Social Justice.
• A sense of belonging to a community that places Jesus at its center and therefore demonstrates the Christian values of respect, trust, honesty and cooperation.
• A celebrating community which accepts prayer, assemblies, liturgies and worship as a vital part of everyday life, thus enhancing our pupils’ experience of and witness to Christ’s presence in today’s society.
• Opportunities for our pupils to grow in their awareness of what it means to be a member of the Catholic Church.
• An understanding and sympathetic appreciation of the faiths of others.
• A familiarity with the religious language, signs, symbols and gestures of worship and prayer.
• Opportunities for our pupils to move from an inherited faith (or non-faith)
to a personal faith.

At St Thomas of Canterbury, Religious Education is at the heart of the curriculum. In line with the expectations of the Religious Education Directory, 10% of curriculum time is dedicated to RE across all key stages, including the Foundation Stage. RE is supported by high-quality staffing and resources, reflecting its central role in the life and mission of our school.

All year groups across the school follow the new Religious Education curriculum using the 'Lighting the Path' scheme of work. Children at St Thomas’ understand the significance of learning about other faiths. Learning about the religion and cultures of those who do not share the Catholic faith is one of the ways in which Catholic schools embody the call
to love one’s neighbour.
